Bloomberg's Element
Mayor Bloomberg presented the 2007 Executive Budget in the Blue Room this morning, and, as is true whenever Mike finds himself pointing a little red laser at a flat screen full of charts and numbers, he seemed especially relaxed, on his game and in his element.
He spoke in a knowing, breezy manner about New York being on "firm financial ground," quoted John Kennedy ("The time to repair the roof is when the sun is shining,") and held forth on his favorite hobby ("Medicine is becoming more expensive as pharmacology replaces surgery to cure things.")
Then the floor opened to questions and the Mayor suddenly seemed to lose some of his eloquence.
On the Moussaoui verdict he mustered up "I hope that he suffers in jail for a very long time... as un-nice a jail as the law would allow."
And addressing a question of whether the effort to rebuild Ground Zero began too soon, he answered "People's emotions run high, they want to do things."

So glad Harvard taught him to speak goodly, not like them other un-nice schools.
Mr. Horowitz: Is this blog about politics or poetry ? Did you miss that the Mayor just kicked Christine Quinn's teeth in by not having any of her initiatives in his budget. Did you miss that he just spit in her face ? I guess he likes the budget dance. Quinn must be fuming. This is shades of what is to come as the strategy of kissing the Mayors ass falls flat on it's face. Bring back the Budget Division !!
P.S. Please start covering politics again and stop being a cute little blog that is boring as all shit.
Mayor made a point of putting in Quinn's initiative for bulletproof vests for cops. No restorations, but not exactly kicking teeth in.
The "leaky roof" quote was popularized (but not coined) by FDR, not JFK. This error should not be repeated. Don't you people read Urban Elephants?

Also, search for "roof" on the American Dialect Society list. The proverb was popularized by the 19th century "Arkansas Traveler."
c'mon, stop dreaming 5:45! the mayor was going to do the the bullet proof vests anyway.
sorry crhis but i sounds like you will be dancing. in fact, looks like the council has strings on its feets and hands, string that are attached to bloomberg, the pupeteer. manton and county boses can only get the pork - whic is not bad given that last year pork amounted to $52 million.
New York is a city of 8.5 million *human beings*, not simply a 7-figure number on a chart. Bloomberg can't wrap his head around that.
10:49-
You just noticed the strings?
