Why Rudy Will Leave the Bubble

Maybe the question shouldn't be why Rudy Giuliani should run for president, but why not?

RudyBlogger reacted to Jason Horowitz's piece about the beginning of the end of the post-9/11 Giuliani bubble by comparing the former mayor to Douglas MacArthur and Colin Powell -- national heroes who wound up sidelined after opting for "popularity over a down-and-dirty run for the presidency."

The conclusion:

Our political system has but one currency and that is power. Not popularity, but power. And you either have it or you don't. (Certainly Rudy-watchers must concede that power is something Hizzoner understands.) When it comes to making your mark in history, there is still no substitute for the Presidency.

Why shouldn't Rudy run for President? The same reason Bloomberg shouldn't. He is a liberal pro-choice Republican with no chance of obtaining the nomination.

Plus all those wacky leftwing Dems he appointed as Commissioners. Imagine how the sunbelt loonies will spin that in Alabama.

I think you're confusing Bloomberg for Giuliani. Please name for us one left-wing loonie commissioner appointed by Giuliani.

Guiliani a liberal?
LOL.

I, like millions of Northeasterners, have been waiting for Rudy to make the run. On 9/11 and afterward, he exhibited more leadership than any living figure I can recall. He cleaned up New York in every way with his no bs attitude. I miss being able to put my unfailing trust in a President. Hasn't happened since Carter, who unfortunately didn't have the leadership that Rudy has. Sign me up.

How often has the Republican party been right about decreasing taxes rates being good for increasing tax revenue. I know it doesn't seem to make sense but rising profits often due to increased investment from decreased taxes spur the economy. Guiliani seems to be the only Republican that remembers this. My only concern now is that he can overcome the endorsement by the Religious Right. He will do this if he can convince Colin Powell to be his Vice Presidential running mate. Bloomberg is rich and smart which translates to middle class distrust. Make Steve Secretary of State.
