Where the Anti-War Signatures Are

Not content to rest after his big Times profile today, Hillary Clinton's opponent Jonathan Tasini will be seeking out like-minded anti-war Democrats to sign his petitions at the Howard Zinn and James Carroll chat at the 92nd Street Y tonight.

According to Tasini's campaign, he'll also be looking for signatures in the coming days outside movie theaters playing "The Road To Guantanamo," "An Inconvenient Truth" and "The War Tapes."

The guy knows his audience.

New York Hotlist (not verified) says:

Tasini would be foolish to forget stopping by the NYU and Columbia campuses. There are plenty of anti-war signatures to be had amongst the two.

Jackie Najalack (not verified) says:

Is Tasini an honest egomaniac or a Suozzi-style egomaniac? In either case, all those who wish to give up on Irag should try to get him on the ballot then work for defeat in Irag by 2008 when the nomination will be better informed by events.

Gatemouth (not verified) says:

Since Tasini needs at least 100 good signatures in half of the stae's congressional district's, he's probably well advised to move his efforts beyond Manhattan. But even if he were also to include Stony Brook, New Paltz, Woodstock, Ithaca and Park Slope he'd still have a long way to go.

Here is a link to Tasini's "Position" on the Iraq War:

Just as I thought. He's trying to ride the 'anti-war' wave without actually presenting a rational alternative or solution.

This is the fundamental problem of liberal America today. We've become a party of reactionaries. We've been taking it on the chin for so long by those on the right that our best tactic for fighting back is to simply be against everything they stand for.

Tasini, you're spineless.

Eumenides (not verified) says:

JDawg faults Tasini for "trying to ride the 'anti-war' wave without actually presenting a rational alternative or solution," for being "reactionary" (don't you mean "reactive," Dawg?)
and for being "spineless." Want a proactive solution to this war? End it! Pull the troops, the military and covert action advisors and the contractors out now! When his opponent is the execrable La Clinton, it's a badge of courage to slam the war and its liberal supporters. Want more, like cuts in the military budget to fund urban needs? Tasini supports that, too. He's shown plenty of spine in taking the fight to the centrist Democrats. About time someone beside Russ Feingold did.

JDawg (not verified) says:

You call that a rational solution?

What a perfect way to allow the middle east to descend into chaos, and to send a message to the people that want to wipe us off the earth that we cut and run when the going gets tough.

I'm not saying I support the war, I don't, but I DO support a rational solution to getting out of this mess.

Yeah, lets compeltely pull the plug on Iraq and spend our military budget on schools. Easy for you to say from the comfort of your computer chair while you're sipping your $4 coffee from Starbucks. The only reason you can actually DO that is because there are people who care about protecting our interests as a nation.

And he IS riding the 'anti-war' wave. Please tell me where in that position statement Tasini actually proposes a plan for pulling out of Iraq. Look REALLY hard, but you ain't gonna find it.
