At Lieberman's Polling Place

Jason Horowitz just called in with some comments from a couple of randomly sampled voters at Joe Lieberman's polling place in New Haven this morning:
Elizabeth Turner, an 81-year-old retired art professor who voted for Ned Lamont: "I like the idea of a choice and new energy. I have voted in lots of primaries. I've always voted democrat down the line. This time, I got to be selective and I liked it... This time, it was the war issue that eliminated Lieberman. I think that if he loses by a big blast, he will be in big trouble." Marjorie Rosenthal, a 39-year-old pediatrician who voted for Joe Lieberman: "I think he's wrong about the war, but I think there are more issues than just that." She said she liked Lieberman's late attempts to explain his war position over the weekend, but added, "I think it's hard to believe what these people say in the eleventh hour."

At the 11th hour a desperate politician will say anything. In 1992, Al D'Amato, fighting for his political life against Robert Abrams, endorsed Clinton over Bush the weekend before Election Day--and won by an eyelash.

Stick a fork in Joe. He is done. Finished.

If Lieberman wins today's primary he will have that speech he gave over the weekend to credit. It was amazing closing speech and probably should have come a lot earlier than it did. Even with a loss if it is less than 10 points he could make an arguement that it was liberals and a fringe group that caused him to lose the primary and run and win in the general as an independent.

Did Al D'Amato really endorse Clinton over Bush in 1992? Did he really win only by an eyelash after Abrams' Facisit remark? Am I missing something?

AS Casey Stengel once said: "You can look it up."

John (not verified) says:

Lieberman and company represent sour grapes. We need a positive, progressive look towards this country's future. Let it begin in Connecticut this year with Ned Lamont's victory to send a message to Washington and the Bush gangsters.

The problem with Joe Lieberman is not just his support for the war. The problem with Joe Lieberman is that he represents the pinacle of the utter spinelessness of the Democratic Party, in not standing up to all of the corruption, greed, fraud and deception of the Neo-cons over the past 6 years of Bush-Cheney. Joe's brown-nosing of the Bush administration and its actions is despicable. Spineless weasel Democrats like Lieberman are exactly what will ensure that the Democrats will not take back the congress or the presidency. Democrats acting more and more like Republicans is not what will bring the Democratic party back into contol of any branch of government. Lets face it, Lieberman is a Republican diguised as a Democrat!!!
