Sabini HQ Broken Into, Data Stolen

Senator John Sabini of Jackson Heights, who is in a hard-fought re-election campaign against Hiram Monserrate, has just had two computers stolen from his campaign office, according to a campaign spokesman.

"We're going to have to be a lot more careful with how we store our data," Sabini's spokesman, Shams Tarek, told me.

According to Tarek, campaign workers discovered the theft this morning around 9:30 and called the police. Tarek said the place was not ransacked and nothing else was stolen. Just two computers.

"It's really suspicious, but we can't make assumptions who did this. John's been a campaigner for 14 years, and this never happened. He had a city council office across the street [from the campaign office] for 10 years and this never happened," Tarek said.

Two years ago, when Sabini ran against a candidate who was supported by Hiram Monserrate, one of Sabini's care tires was slashed.

Next Wednesday [time corrected], Sabini and Monserrate are meeting face to face for a debate. -- Azi Paybarah

Maybe if Senator Sabini was in his district more often and spent more time in his district office, this would have not had the chance to happen. Sadly, as Senator Sabini is finding out now that he is running for re-election, his district is not as safe as it could be. Nonetheless, crime is a bad thing and I am personally sad that his or any other resident's home or place of business in the 13th ED residence was vandalized.

Are you sure its not Sabini doing this himself in order to garner sympathy and cast aspersions on other? Its a favorite tactic by some Queens pols.

A quick search shows that our favorite blogger Azi Paybarah and Sabini's spokesperson Shams Tarek used to work together at the Queens Tribune. Seems like a good connection to use if you don't have a story but want to make a ridiculous accusation.

They are not accusing the Monserrate Campaign, sre they??? Maybe a little indirect smear the County way, but they appear to clever to take a direct shot.

Police said the crooks appear to have climbed in through a side window. Missing are two computers and two flat-screen TV monitors that Sabini said he rented for the campaign.

Maybe he didn't pay his rental fees on time?

I like how you commenters have absolutely no substance to add. You take the side of anyone who is not with the organization even if they are the qualified candidate, and lambaste the incumbent. Leave staffers alone, and stop lamenting over not getting a job the last cycle.

Don't the Moya's advise Sabini?

Primary Day 2001 Sept. 11 Monserrate assaulted a cop. It is by no means beneath Hiram or Lois Marbach (who organized a hate rally outside of Sabini's office for not employing African-Americans, even though Sabini has 4 African-Americans on staff) to commit a crime to gain an advantage.

Funny how the cops were the first to joke about this being a Monserrate hit. Seems Hiram didn't learn to play with others in kindergarten and is paying the price now. He was a cop, and the PBA is helping Sabini. He was in 32BJ and they're with Sabini too. He is currently in the Council and the Speaker, as well as most of his colleagues, don't support him either.

Monserrate's office was broken into about a month and a half ago and he made a point not to accuse his opponent because this race should be about issues.
