Schumer Alumni and the 11th

Working for the same tough boss usually puts surviving staffers into a fraternity of sorts. Anybody who graduated from a weekly newspaper in the outer boroughs can tell you.

But there's not always love in those fraternities.

Today, Rep. Anthony Weiner is endorsing Yvette Clarke for Brooklyn's 11th congressional district, skipping the chance to endorse fellow Chuck Schumer alum, David Yassky.

didnt Suozzi also do some campaigning with Yvette? and you assume AW and DY ever liked each other.

If you can not read this in light of mayoral politics '05 and '09 --what the hell have you learned all these years?

Nassau Nell (not verified) says:

Anonymous--you have hit the bullseye on the correct explanation for this endorsement: Weiner doesn't want any Schumer clone in the NY Congressional delagation competing with him for air time and newspaper space; its as simple as that...oh and the fact that 1199 just endorsed Yvette.

Anonymous says:

yassky endorsed giff miller over weiner in 05. his wife's citizen budget commission criticized weiner more than once in campaign.

And I don't see all the former Gentile staffers sticking together either.

what do the latest polls say about this race?

Alas poor Weiner. Yvette will stab him in the back in the truest Clarke tradition, as she and Mommy Dearest have done to all of their friends.
He will be left at a Sunday morning press conference asking "et tu Brute?"

And Anthony used to be such a good student of history.

tsk tsk.

weiner might be endorsing clarke, but i doubt he's booking her shuttle tickets to DC. Nobody believes she's gonna win--probably not even her.

Anthony and David will make up after Sept 12, mark my words. They will need each other badly in '08 and '09. Those poor Park Slope prime Dems, they have no idea what's coming.

READ ALL THE ANTI-CLARKE CRY BABIES ABOVE .. The Andrews and Yassky suporters have been reduced to venting their frustration on BLOGS like this. Or could it be Andrews and Yassky themselves ??

Imagine how distraught they will be on September 13th after Yvette CRUSHES their guys.

Weiner is one brilliant pol he knows which way the wind blows. As a fellow Jew to Yassky he would NEVER have endorsed Clareke unless he is convinced she will win and he would NOT have done it without approval "from above" meaning Schumer and various unnamed Jewish leaders.

Obviously Jewish leaders want to court favor with the NEW Congress Member who looks to become a POWERFUL voice in Congress for the Black perspective.

GOOD MOVE WEINER !!

They must have discussed it at the quarterly secret Jewish world domination meeting. Jeesh!

Weiner's endorsement of Yvette Clarke isn't because he considers her to be the best candidate it's because he wants her help (and endorsement) for his 2009 run for mayor. He needs an endorsement from someone with a strong tie to the Carribean community.

And that's his biggest weakness as well. He has few set positions, and voters have no idea which Weiner they're hearing from that week: is the leftist pro-Gay marriage Weiner, the Weiner "supporting" middle-class tax cuts or the "let me shoot my mouth off again" Weiner? No one knows until it happens.
