The Young and the Rising

Bill Lipton, Ed Skyler, Rich Baum, Rodney Capel...

These names (and precisely 31 others) can be found on the City Hall News list of "Rising Stars." It's not clearwhat the criteria were for making it, other than that the honoree be less than 40 years old.

In any event, the young Manhattan Media publication is hosting a reception at City Hall restaurant tonight for whichever of the young political stars feel like showing up.

The full roll of the City Hall News honorees is after the jump.

this list sucks (not verified) says:

What a boring skin deep list of people! Rivera? Gioia? Lappin? Get real, where are the real people making a difference in our City (good that Sheekey and Quinn are on list) and not just the empty suits sent up by county or former representatives. (yes Eric Gioia fans I know your buddy wasn't county but he is pretty ineffective and boring)

Isn't it misleading to call consultants "political leaders"? Who exactly are they leading?

jaq (not verified) says:

it would appear that if your name is in the paper lately, or you work in city hall, you are rising. the rest of the political world, which has forgotten more than these people will ever know, (and some of us are just 40) don't count anymore. this is pathetic, get to work people

Anonymous (not verified) says:

methinks not all of these folks are under 40.

Anonymous says:

elderly 44yo: brennan is on the list.

Anonymous says:

Elderly 44 Year Old aka Scott Levenson, Stop promoting your candidates on blogs and get your staff (if you wanna call the ragtag group of interns and underpaid staffers that) on task.

jaq (not verified) says:

it is amazing how jealous some of you are of scott levenson. get over it, guys!

Goyem (not verified) says:

Weiner, conspicuosly missing, unless he's considered a current leader.

Skyler is a putz

Anonymous says:

did the honorees actually show up to this thing?

Ortho Insider (not verified) says:

How about David Greenfield, Executive Director of the Sephardic Community Federation. Anyone who is anyone in New York politics should get to know this guy.He controls the political contributions for the Sephardic community, among the most affluent in the city, and a group that has begun trying to exert their influence.

Anon (not verified) says:

It's nice to include some of the staffers for powerless electeds (eg: the BPs and Councilmembers) but how do you leave off someone like Alan Van Capelle or Stu Loeser? Joe is a great guy, but he doesn't belong on the short list.

Anonymous says:

who would be jealous of scott levenson, his candidates are losing, look at LES Judgeship. Maybe if he would just link up with Mark Green again...

pro lady (not verified) says:

I was sad to see that this list does not contain the name of not one black woman. This is a disgrace. Black women have been on the move in government for some time now and it is quite insulting to not see any of them on the list.

Tisk Tisk to the publisher....

anonymous (not verified) says:

how about a borough by borough break out of rising stars on both sides of the aisle?

anon (not verified) says:

Pro Lady, how about Tiffany Raspberry? And while we're on the subject of Parkside, why not include Evan Stavisky and Joe Ruebens? The list is pretty crap without those three.

Next time around, they should include John Choe, CM Liu's chief of staff, Michael Sais, AM Gianaris's chief of staff, and Dirk McCall, President of the Stonewall Dems, too.

anon (not verified) says:

i don't think electeds should be included. they've already risen.

BrooklynBum (not verified) says:

I second the Greenfield nomination. This guy is all over the place and was seen supporting just about every winner in Brooklyn

Anonymous says:

What about Ken Adams of Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce?

Bk chick (not verified) says:

In response to the obvious Parkside posting, there are many more black women on the move in politics other than Tiffani Raspberry. She is ok and all but there are others that have been in poltics for a long time.

BTW I know this a Parkside staffer because no one likes freakin Evan Stavisky..... or even knows Joe Ruebens, Barry go back to work!

anonimus (not verified) says:

Ken Adams is 45 years old, but a good choice....

lebowski (not verified) says:

how about some staten islanders?

begs-to-differ (not verified) says:

3:40pm, maybe there are other women who have have been in the biz longer, but we arent talking about a lifetime achievement award, we are talking about rising stars under 40 and nobody can deny that Tiffany is just that.

Anonymous says:

The list is sad and quite frankly, I felt a little silly at this gathering.

1) Elected officials should not be on there.

2) 40 year olds arent really rising any more. They should have kept it 35 an under.

It seems to me that the editors chose the list. "Insiders" would know the right youngsters to pick.

anonymous (not verified) says:

i guess it is easier to make it on the list if you are a white male and have lost an election or have been on the wrong side of an election.

stanlundinefan (not verified) says:

Evan Stavisky? Isn't he going to jail for all the shady Brian McLaughlin dealings?

anonymous (not verified) says:

Jean Phelps, Donette Cherry, Mia Carter, Lady Sykes rising stars in Queens as well
