A New Role

Charlie Rangel, who has been around long enough to see just about everything, finds himself on unfamiliar turf today, defending President Bush from the colorful criticisms of Hugo Chavez in his presentation to the U.N.
Among other things the ever-quotable Rangel said:
You don't come into my county, you don't come into my congressional district and you don't condemn my president. If there is any criticism of the president, it should be restricted to Americans...Are there any questions? I've said it all.
It's actually smart politics. Which may be why Nancy Pelosi is also going after Chavez, who comes across to most Americans more as a pro-wrestling heel than a world leader, in what looks like a suspiciously concerted effort by the Democrats to score easy patriotism points.
Not that Rangel, a decorated veteran, particularly has anything to prove in that department.
Watch his remarkable performance here.

what a stud!
I'm surprised you're so impressed by this. Rangel's attempt at machismo -- "you don't come into my country, you don't come into my congressional district" -- seems pretty foolish when discussing the United States's hosting of the United Nations. Let me get this straight: because the U.N. is in New York, criticisms of the American president should not be made there?
Let me get this correct: it's okay for the USA to invade Pananma, Grenada, Iraq and other places on their whim , but it is not okay for some leader of a foreign contry to criticize BUSH during a UN event.
WOW!!!!
I guess Mr. Rangel thinks that demonization of foreign leaders is a privilege accorded only the United States. The UN, although located in NYC, is actually considered INTERNATIONAL TERRITORY.
Actually I was only referring to his picture when i said "what a stud"
Rangel proves once again to be a house negro.
House Negro indeed. I wish there were congressional leaders in Washington that had at least 1/2 of a percent of the cojones President Chavez has. BTW Charlie, you girl Inez Dickens was in da house as was Bill Perkins, Cornel West, and Danny Glover. Perhaps Charlie is mad he doesn't get as much love as Chavez gets when he's uptown. Charlie needs to retire and stop being an apologist and lackeye for the devil in DC.
Charlie was absolutely right. Even I was offended, and I'm as liberal as they get.
Rangel has always been a house negro, yass sur!
Just when I was starting to think that the Willie Lynch letter was all a hoax.
