Not Angry Enough

You'd think the day after Bill Clinton goes on Fox News and tells his interviewer, "You did Fox's bidding -- you did your nice little conservative hit job on me," the liberal netroots would be ecstatic. But some of them are considerably less impressed with the way Clinton's performance looks the morning after.

Ariana Huffington said that instead "of popping champagne corks, let's make use of this moment by stepping back and giving it some context. What can we learn from what happened? More specifically, what can Bill Clinton learn? That the bipartisan love-in he's been engaged in over the last several years has resulted in jack-squat."

Matt Stoller of MyDD said it's worse than jack-squat -- and is not going to help his wife either.

Bill Clinton's "bipartisan above-the-fray attitude which excuses his wife's fundraising events with the likes of Rupert Murdoch is going to slam head-on into the reality of the right-wing extremism that people like Murdoch put forward. Clinton stopped fighting the right when he left office, but they didn't stop fighting him."

The Clinton's lips have been so firmly planted in Rubert's behind that they didn't notice that FOX news kicks their butts every few hours.

Still it was unprofessional of a former president to act like a talking head on the old Crossfire. Shoulda sent Carville.

Clinton always deserved to be impeached .... not for getting a BJ, but for pretending to be a Democrat. Hillary had a good tutor.

Leave out crucial quotes much? Here's the last two sentences, the ones you conveniently clipped out.

I'm glad he's back in it, but I hope he's really back in it. You know what I mean?

I expect a correction.

Clinton has this belief that all these dirty Republicans were against him. But what were they really saying? - -

"I think the president did exactly the right thing," said House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) said. "By doing this we're sending the signal there are no sanctuaries for terrorists." Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott (R-Miss.) called the attacks "appropriate and just," and House Majority Leader Richard K. Armey (R-Tex.) said "the American people stand united in the face of terrorism."

The AP says: "Gingrich dismissed any possibility that Clinton may have ordered the attacks to divert attention from the scandal. Instead, he said, there was an urgent need for a reprisal following the Aug. 7 bombings of U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. 'Anyone who watched the film of the bombings, anyone who saw the coffins come home knows better than to question this timing,' Gingrich said. 'It was done as early as possible to send a message to terrorists across the globe that killing Americans has a cost. It has no relationship with any other activity of any kind.'

Pat Buchanan said "there was every justification for it. It was a retaliatory strike, it's a pre-emptive strike, it was decided a week ahead of time, unanimously in the Ex Com of the National Security Council. There is not a scintilla of evidence that the president timed this for political reasons, and I think the Republicans who have stood behind the president in these strikes are exactly right."

Thanks Daniel for setting the record straight. One party plays politics with national security constantly and it name begins with a D.

Bill Clinton stopped fighting the Right the moment it stopped being about him. For that matter, he only started fighting the Right the moment it started being about him.
