Hannitized

So here's an invitiation for a fund-raiser to be headlined this Friday by Fox News personality Sean Hannity on behalf of embattled Republican Sen. George Allen of Virginia. (The "macaca" guy.)

It isn't exactly a shocker. But I wonder if stuff like this doesn't make it just a teensy bit more difficult for Fox to demand retractions when anyone refers to them as a conservative news organization.

Is Fox all about Hannity? He's on for one hour.

Anonymous says:

You forget they have Alan Colmes, the biggest milquetoast, pansy liberal, as a "counter" to Hannity. I guess in Fox's eyes that makes it fair and balanced.

Moderate (not verified) says:

I've met liberals, I've worked with liberals, and Alan Colmes is no liberal. In fact, there isn't one of the talking head pundits on cable that could be called realistically be called a liberal. At best you get middle of the road Democrats.

I'd like to see a good fire-breathing liberal out there, just to remind people of what liberal really meant before the conservatives got ahold of the concept. I'd like to see one person on Chris Matthews' show speak up for abortion rights. I'd like to hear pundits talking about universal health care, labor rights, affordable housing and other good old liberal ideas.

Fidel (not verified) says:

I guess in the world of fair and balanced journalism and republican/conservative politics, being a drug addict(Limbaugh) a sexual harassing deviant(O'reilly) and being a self hating racist(Allen)are all considered acceptable qualities for leadership and being card carrying members of the self appointed morality police of jounalism.

Al Franken explains the whole Hannity thing in "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them". Fox News President Roger Ailes hired Hannity first as the conservative (before they handpicked Alan Colmes) in what was called "Hannity and liberal to be named later". So Hannity was always meant to be their resident conservative, while Bill O'Reilly was cast as the "Independent". So the previous poster is correct that Colmes is meant to support Fox's claim that they are fair and balanced. According to Franken, Colmes was a stand-up comic working clubs before they cast him as the liberal contrast to Hannity.

but Fox News is fair and balanced! Their tag line tells us this. I'm shocked....

Karol (not verified) says:

Azi and all of you doofy anonymous commenters: Hannity is NOT a news journalist. He is an opinion journalist. There is a BIG difference. There's no secret that he's a conservative. It's not like the not-at-all-biased-and-paid-for-with-my-tax-dollars PBS exchanging donor lists with the Democratic party. It's an out and proud conservative hosting a fundraiser for another conservative. Do I need to give some lessons on the difference between opinion commentators and straight newspeople? Cause I will.

And, as a conservative, I can tell you that while Fox is rah-rah America (which can sometimes be confused for conservatism as liberals are generally scared to be too patriotic) they are NOT conservative.

DarthMullet (not verified) says:

Does FOX actually employ any non-"opinion journalists?"

Fidel (not verified) says:

An opinion journalist, is this a Fox creation?

In my opinion, Hannity is a blabbering right wing idiot.

How's that for an opinion.

Sean Hannity and George Allen are gettin it on!!!

Juizzee (not verified) says:

Hey Karol, you crazy f**k. If Fox News is not conservative, then what is? It is so obvious that Murdoch and Ailes have created a GOP megaphone with Fox News. And by the way, I am quite patriotic -- this country is great and will continue to be great as long as the current crazy GOP is put out of power.

The Virginian (not verified) says:

George Allen is the perfect embodiment of what LBJ aide, S. Douglass Carter called "an amateur bigot."

Liberal. It took Daddy Bush to make that word a pejorative and pronounce it as three syllables, instead of two.

Lib-er-al'...If Colmes doesn't know he's there to be Hannity's ho'...he should be "extraordianrily rendered" as too stupid to be an American.

Karol (not verified) says:

Does FOX actually employ any non-"opinion journalists?"

Yes. It's the ones delivering the news and not arguing with the guests. That's an easy way to tell them apart.

An opinion journalist, is this a Fox creation?

Chris Matthews, Joe Scarborough, Lou Dobbs, Tucker Carlson, James Carville, etc. etc. might take issue with that.

If Fox News is not conservative, then what is?

Um, Townhall. Newsmax. Etc.

And by the way, I am quite patriotic -- this country is great and will continue to be great as long as the current crazy GOP is put out of power.

Then you clearly don't understand the meaning of the word (which by the lack of intelligence displayed in your comment isn't surprising). I was patriotic even when that embarrassment Clinton was president.

Hannity is an entertainment personality. NOT a journalist. Those professional codes would have been broken day one. Mainly, he's a grand prevaricator. As for Colmes, God bless him, but he might do better on radio.

You would never catch me any place where Hannity was. It's bad enough seening him on the news let alone seeing him in person!

Every time Sean Hannity come to the defense of of people like George Allen tells the true story about his past and the way he personally feel about minorities.

Joe Lang (not verified) says:

Fox News IS a conservative outlet. If it isn't, then let's see them bankroll Air America Radio. If that idea makes you think, "As if...!", then Fox News is a conservative outlet. When we see Chris Wallace, their 'faux reporter', asking John Dean the lead in question "The generals in Iraq have made statements contradicting your viewpoint. Do you think there's just the slightest possibility that they may know more about the situation on the ground than you?" instead of "Senator Dean, can you tell us why you believe that the administration's policies in Iraq are not being productive?" then it is obvious that they are a conservative news outlet. Mr. Wallace's question was posed from a particular point of view, rather than from an objective stance, which any GOOD reporter would do. Chris Wallace is not a reporter, he is a conservative apologist, just as Brit Hume is not a reporter but a conservative apologist. The problem with Fox's use of Hannity, Limbaugh and their ilk is not that they espouse a conservative viewpoint because as a two party system, we need both points of view. The problem is that they preach an insistent hatred of and lack of tolerance for a democratic or liberal viewpoint, which serves to polarize the country. Polarization of the electorate was the goal of men like Newt Gingrich and Rupert Murdoch so that they could step into the gap and create an 'us versus them' mentality, which contributes to their use of fear as a goad to bring people to the conservative fold. That's the problem with these 'pundits' and no lie is too great, no spin too weird to use, no explanation too outlandish as long as it promotes their gospel of hate and gets Republicans and, in particular, Neocons elected. As an example, take note of the comments by conservative pundits regarding President Clinton's interview with Chris Wallace. None of them debate the points that the President brought up, but they do everything they can to characterize his reaction as 'loony', 'emotional outburst', 'crazy' and 'bullying'. Then they go on to repeat the same old tired lies about Clintons performance, when what the President said was true. It was the Republicans that stood in the way of his getting these things done, who sniped at him every opportunity they got while he was trying to bring OBL to justice.

Fox News saying that they are 'Fair And Balanced' is similar to Enron saying that they've 'had a little setback'.

It figures so Hannity is going to push for that Maccaca monkey. Hes a racist and so is Allen so they are both loosers. You will see Allen go down like a ton of bricks come Nov 7, he does not deserve to be given a second term. Once we get out all the corrupt republicans we can get our country back

yknot (not verified) says:

All those clowns better be careful. Its beginning to look like the likes of the macaca haters and assorted Rapture wishers will after the next elections be on Fox tv in some cartoon-like "Family Guy" or sit-come like Mad-TV.

Why would Fox have a Hannity when they can tap the likes of Georgie with a an Allen name long known for its comedians?

I'm not going to address the various mental problems of the people commenting here but this: "Fox News IS a conservative outlet. If it isn't, then let's see them bankroll Air America Radio. If that idea makes you think, "As if...!", then Fox News is a conservative outlet." is just hilarious. Air America is near bankruptcy. Only a total idiot (or any number of limousine liberals) would invest in that.

Hey, George Allen? A little advice-having a fundraiser with a wingnut bigot & bully is not really going to help undo the impression YOU are a bigot & a bully. Another little bit of advice-when you're in a hole, stop digging.
