Hevesi's Chance
Bill Hammond takes issue with Alan Hevesi's refusal to campaign, and thinks it'll haunt the comptroller, even if he wins re-election.
-- Azi PaybarahEvery time he puts out an audit about a village clerk with his hand in the till, Hevesi will face questions about his own sticky fingers. Hevesi's only chance for redemption is to throw himself on the mercy of the court of public opinion. That means accepting debates with Callaghan.
I don't think I'd want Bill Hammond as my campaign manager. That kind of squirming may be fun for the press -- but it's not great campaign strategy.
HEVESI SHOULD RESIGN. PERIOD.
If Hevesi's office uncovered gross misconduct, like "stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from New York State" while conducting an audit, you can bet someone would be resigning. Get a clue Allen, it's time to step down!!!
I was wondering who was going to question the $83K payback tally without explanation -- someone should foil timesheets & schedules. I'm sure it would show that Driving Ms. Hevesi cost more than $83K -- and was it a
State car they used?
I am a lifelong Democrat that will be voting for Callaghan. The first time in my life that I will vote for a Republican.
Unless the Albany DA does something, people will not care about this issue after the election.
Most people don't find this whole thing enough to vote for Callaghan now (and this computer debacle is nothing shy of ridiculous). Most people look at the 40 years of solid public service that Hevesi has provided before this and see a guy that genuinely works for the people. They see a guy that has questioned the system time and again and has not hesitated to stand up to politics and say what needs to be said. You know, the very stuff that the press has been reporting pretty steadily for at least the last 12 years, with some pretty dramatic results.
On the other hand, they see a another guy that has spent however long doing whatever it is that the treasurer of Saratoga County does. How much policy does this guy actually set that really means anything outside of the County? Not a lot. Nobody knows anything about him other than his ability to bash a sick woman.
that's not much of a campaign and his cash numbers prove it, as do his poll numbers - which haven't changed a bit. This guy has virtually nothing to offer. He said it when he started this ridiculous campaign and he shows it now.
