A Glamorous New Minarik

So here's a new wrinkle in the guessing game of who will replace Stephen Minarik as state Republican chair.

Along with the usually mentioned names - Nassau County Leader Joe Mondello, President Nixon's son-in-law Ed Cox, and Joe Bruno's aide Ed Lurie - comes another one from a Republican consultant who swears it's not a put-on:

Jeanine Pirro.

Me: Isn't she damaged goods?

Consultant: She did better than anybody else did on Tuesday.

This consultant said that if the FBI investigation into Pirro's alleged wiretapping of her husband goes nowhere, she would be able to play the victim more credibly than she was ever able to during the campaign. The consultant pointed out that she hasn't wasted a second getting her face on Fox News as a commentator. And after her crucible of an attorney general campaign, how hard can a party chairmanship be?

I suppose all this really shows is that there is no clear front-runner for the job of cleaning of the mess that is now the state Republican Party. Any additional nominations are welcome.

She did better but spent more...dollar per vote Callaghan is by far the "pound for pound" winner...

Mondello would be a horrible choice. If he was a Democratic mole, sent 25 years ago to destroy the one powerful Nassau County repblican Committee, he could not have done more damage to the party, its committee people or its electeds. Someone should FOIL the Nassau GOP's books ( both sets) before giving Joe Mondello the State GOP credit card!

The question is would she take the job? The GOP is in shambles. And she couldn't possibly be worse than who they've have there now. She also looks nice o TV.

Cox rubbbed too many people the wrong way this year. And no one trusts his constant leaks to the press. Jeanine's been talked about for a while in some circles. I don't know if she would want it though.

In about a year, Pataki will be looking for work. And Libby's available now.

Pirro has never really been a party person, but she's always had pizazz. Unlikely but interesting choice.

this is hilarious - pirro's campaign was an absolute train wreck. and i'm not even talking about her 15 minute senate bid. she's a walking debacle. and then there's, uhm, her husband - the guy with the lead foot & criminal record, who likes to sob to reporters about his so-called domestic woes. does anybody really think he'd be able to stay out of the headlines? hah!

Anon Goper (not verified) says:

Who's kidding who. This is probably a ploy by her consultant kieran mahoney to maintain control over the state party, while cutting a deal with spitzer to keep the gop under control so that he can continue cashing in on government contracts. The scary thing is that he may get his way.

As a fervent Democrat, i'm all for Pirro!

Pirro? Never. She and the albatross Al are finally gone, and they should stay gone. She lost Westchester, for god's sake. She has the political sensitivity of a mailbox. It will never happen.

Looks like the boys at Mercury are making a move to stay relevant. They own her.

She's never dull, and that's a good thing in politics. She's always had the ability to attract a microphone and the state GOP could sure use that going forward. It's the Party that will need to stay relevant and someone who can command press attention is crucial. Don't know if it will be Jeanine, but the thinking is correct.

How about someone who can wing it when they lose page ten?

TDKuhne (not verified) says:

The party leaders do not respect Mrs. Pirro. No way will she become Chair when FOX is offering her the $$$.

and correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Callaghan actually come within a closer victory margin than she did? He lost by only 18%, she by 20%.

What party leaders?

How about brendan Quinn?
