Chris Owens Returns

Mixed into crowd of protesters asking lawmakers to delay a vote on the the Atlantic Yards project was former Congressional candidate (and possible borough presidential candidate) Chris Owens.

While a number of speakers at the demonstration focused on the narrow issue of whether approval from the Public Authorities Control Board could take place before the new gubernatorial administration takes office, others, like Owens, also questioned the project's finances.

"Show us the money," Owens he chanted.

It'll be interesting to see if the anti-Atlantic Yards base that made Owens a player in the congressional race can also make him a credible candidate in a borough-wide race.

No, but it will make him a decent spoiler.

4:29 Chris would not have the same impact on a white candidate in a borough wide race (if Yassky is the example you are citing) Chris peeled away the most liberal white primary voters, which ultimately tore too far into Yassky's presumptive base. These voters live almost exlusively in the 11th congressional district (and 52nd AD) That said, David still earned about half of those votes. Borough wide, Owens could never possibly make headway with the Lew Fidler or Marty Golden outer boro white Dems that propelled Rudy to office in 92 and Bloomberg in 01. Put those white voters together with the Yassky libs in the 11th and Owens is not spoiling much.

owens finished dead last in the 4-way race to replace his father. how does that make him a credible candidate for anything?

Chris should stop setting his sights so high and run for something he can win. Why doesn't he just move a few blocks and run for Yvette Clark's old seat?

Sorry for the typo. Yvette Clarke.
