Albany's Swift Boat Victims

Richard Brodsky is concerned about the legislature's image.

Days after he wrote an Op-Ed in the Times regional sections entitled "The Legislature You Don't Know," he went on Fred Dicker's radio show this morning to lament the way the Assembly is getting kicked around in public.

"He's entitled to be a tough guy; he is a tough guy," he said of Eliot Spitzer.

But he lamented the fact that the state legislature had, in his words, been "swift boated."

"Who swift boated you guys?" Dicker asked him.

"Editorial page writers, radio show hosts, outside groups," Brodksy answered.

Is Brodsky setting himself up to be the next Speaker?

Cranky Independent (not verified) says:

That is really outrageous. Rising rage at the way the legislature operates, and the results of those operations, goes back two decades as things have gotten worse and worse.

Ask Mario Cuomo, who was Governor when it wasn't nearly as bad. Ask former Assemblyman Joe Ferris. Ask former State Senator Lachman. And that's just among NYC Democrats.

Swiftboat? It's been a very slow boat as we've gradually woken up to this. To say that Spitzer has created hostility to the legislature is laughable.

Anonymous says:

Yeah; the real problem in the legislature is bad PR and mean people saying bad things about Albany's Finest.

Right. This way to the denial/pity party, please.

RocklandGuy (not verified) says:

Brodsky should watch his back. Shelly doesn't like when his members raise their profile in an obvious bid to become the next Speaker.

Nassau Nell (not verified) says:

Not to worry RocklandGuy, this was obviously Brodsky's price for rolling over on Silver's choice of diNapoli to ve state comptroller. Brodsky's too smart not to get Shelly's ok first.
