9 a.m. The New School hosts a panel discussion on challenges to conventional economic wisdom at 55 West 13th Street near Sixth Avenue.

10 a.m. The city's Public Safety and Civil Rights committees will meet to discuss the oversight of the internal and external monitoring of the New York Police Department at City Hall.

10 a.m. The Assembly Standing Committee on Health, Assembly Standing Committee on Insurance and the Assembly Standing Committee on Labor will hold a public hearing on how to increase health insurance coverage in New York State at the Assembly Hearing Room, 250 Broadway.

11:30 a.m. Veterans for Peace N.Y.C protests Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's support for war funding at 780 Third Avenue, between 48th and 49th streets.

4 p.m. State Sen. Velmanette Montgomery hosts a youth conference at the CAMBA Beacon IS 271 Auditorium at 1137 Herkimer Street in Brooklyn.

4:30 p.m. Lorraine Cortes-Vazquez is sworn in as Secretary of State of New York at Hostos Community College, 500 Grand Concourse, in the Bronx.

6 p.m. Friends of City Hall Park celebrate the passage of the resolution supporting a plan to reopen City Hall Park at Murray Street Grill, 6 Murray Street.

6:30 p.m. Young Nonprofit Professionals Network announces their winner of the 2007 Non-Profiteer of the Year at the Libation Restaurant & Lounge, 137 Ludlow Street, between Rivington and Stanton streets.

8 p.m. Sen. Barack Obama speaks at a fundraiser at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, 109 East 42nd Street, at Park Avenue.
