Mike Wallace Gets 60 Minutes

In a lot of media outfits, when a big guy retires they put together some sort of festschrift, a fake front page, a book of testimonials, and give it to the guy at his retirement dinner. On 60 Minutes they do that on air, and spend a whole hour, when we might have been learning about, say, middle-class Iraqis fleeing to Syria, on Mike Wallace. O.K. I understand. It's show business, I should cut them a break. Wallace is cool. But in the middle of the show they said that the Reagans were Wallace's "friends." Are reporters supposed to be friends of Presidents? Who else are his buddies? Maybe they should have asked Mike about that.
