ESPN Promotes Violence in Football
The Halftime show on Monday Night Football on ESPN is featuring something called "Jacked Up," showing the five biggest hits of the previous weekend's action and asking people to vote on which was the best one. The hits are blindside collisions, typically, cornerbacks hurling themselves at receivers, linebackers slicing into quarterbacks. Football is violent enough without this shameful promotion of its worst feature. What's so funny about spinal injury? I'm not surprised that goofball Chris Berman is yucking it up through this crap, but what excuse does Steve Young have? Tony Kornheiser needs to say something, now.
Little phil weiss is way out of his league here. Perhaps he should be discussing figure skating, whining against israel, or heaping praise upon party hosts in rent-controlled upper west side apartments.
The media refuses to address the issue of violence in football. The cabal of advertisers and sponsors, team owners and perhaps, loosely organized, with the television networks are behind it. Notice not a single newspaper article has been written about this despite years of ongoing violence.
Perhaps only in London would they publish an article about it. If you tried it in the USA you are immediately branded anti-American or gay.
I hope Mr. Weiss has the guts to address this issue. The "forces" are out to get anyone that touches this "holy grail".
How many people will be indoctrinated with a culture of violence before America is rid of this evil force?
someone needs to address the violence in figure skating, perhaps phil. the whole nancy kerrigan thing was just awful, or as phil would say "vicious". why sometimes the competitition leads one skater to positively want to just kick, bite and scratch someones eyes out. we need to rid the world of this evil, pronto, or phil will just scream.
Viewers should demand that Berman and his co-anchors get out of their cushioned chairs each week and re-enact the top hit live in the studio. (Joe Theismann would be allowed to sit them out.) Then we'll see how long "Jacked Up" lasts. Although, cancelling this segment won't reduce violence in football. Remember, hiring Rush Limbaugh didn't exactly lead to the end of the black quarterback.
End the violence in football. End the running too. Also, there is a severe case of anti-spherosis in golf and tennis! Won't someone think of the balls!

Most Americans watch football on TV and think that they know what's going on. I am on of the small group of Americans that actually went to a live game- that's right- I went to a game and saw the violence with my own eyes. I was going to run onto the field and be a human shield, but I thought it would be better to report it. Most Americans never get closer to a live game than their own TV sets.
Dammit, will the media wake up to this madness!
I played JV football in High School and we played fair. Pro ball is something else these days. The street is getting jacked up over this and it is going to boil over.
I find I'm incapable of being outraged by ESPN's hafltime show when The New York Times features on its Op-Ed a writer, David Brooks, who vacillates from Met's fan to Nat's fan and back to being a Met's fan because the Mets are in the playoffs again. It's revolting.
Brooks (it's pretty obvious where he 'grew up') has no opinion of his own and is controlled and manipulated by the "loosly affiliated cabal" of the sports industry/sponsor/broadcast lobby.
Notice that no other journalist touches this "too hot" issue. If your not a Mets fan when they are in the payoffs, there goes your constituency, career, probably your wife and who know what else. Thankfully there last bastion of civilization, England, still stands. America is full of two-faced cowards. I love living here.

Dude You Suck Did you forget that this is football the hits are apart of the game stop tryin to make the game nice for all to see. If you've ever played football you should know that the 1st thing you learn is how to HIT not how to gently lay somebody on the turf. Again I say "You Suck"
