Who's Bigger?

Gehry Largest Stoop in Brooklyn.jpg
Frank Gehry's proposed stoop at Atlantic Yards is being called the "biggest stoop in Brooklyn." But back when the Brooklyn Museum was completing its new facade, Director Arnold Lehman bragged about building "Brooklyn's newest and largest 'front stoop.'" (PDF) It was designed by Polshek Partnership. BMA Art Throb.jpg
Remember: Size doesn't matter. It all depends on how it gets used. (From www.artthrob.co.za)

We count about 10 steps each based on these images. So we hold our breath. Will Gehry out-Brooklyn Polshek?

George Locker (not verified) says:

I believe that the Brooklyn Museum has a public stoop; Mr. Gehry's stoop will be a private stoop.

Chances are, all roads and walkways within the Atlantic Yards Project will be private, not public.

Eric M. (not verified) says:

But wait, in an incredibly original twist, Gehry envisions his stoop as narrow at the bottom and wide at the top, an inversion of Polshek's wide-at-the-bottom, narrow-at-the-top design. Genius! What an original! How DOES he come up with this stuff?

Couple it with his Brooklyn Bridge-inspired "Ms. Brooklyn," and we local yokels now fully understand how grateful we should be to the almighty Bruce for bringing us the wisdom of such visionaries. It's inspired! Thank you, thank you.
