Port Authority OKs Freedom Tower

The board of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey approved $500 million worth of construction contracts for the Freedom Tower on Thursday afternoon, according to a press release, following up on its agreement to take over the building late last year and Gov. Spitzer's begrudging commitment earlier this week. - Matthew Schuerman

it would have been unusual had Gov. Spitzer stuck to his guns and done the right thing in ending the Edifice Complex that is the "Freedom Tower," but i guess when you're surrounded by the totalitarian architecture and the "dysfunction" that defines Albany, one more gigantic, ugly, stupid building to block out the sky and interfere with normal traffic in lower Manhattan doesn't seem so bad...after all, maybe people will come to the zoo to see the white elephant...
