EMILY's List, which supports Hillary Clinton, reacts harshly to what it calls the "tremendously disrespectful" endorsement of Barack Obama by NARAL.

Hillary's Woman Tour

After appearing on ABC's "The View" this morning, Hillary Clinton continued her estrogen -charged "Women Changing America" sweep through New York today by giving a speech at the Eleanor Roosevelt Legacy Committee luncheon at the Grand Central Hyatt.

"A lot of people took a chance on me," said Clinton about her senate run in a ballroom full of mostly women. "We now face a new question: Is America ready for a woman President."

"Is it easy to make history? Is it easy to change history? Of course not."

In introducing the candidate, Ellen Malcolm, the president of Emily's List, noted that Clinton was leading by more than 30 points in some polls, and enjoyed overwhelming support from women, especially in the primary state of New Hampshire.

President Hillary Video

Here is that video from Emily's List of a mock Hillary Clinton getting sworn in. It's got an awfully long windup for a rather quick punchline.

Hillary Sworn In

The Emily's List luncheon featuring Hillary Clinton that just ended in Washington had as its centerpiece a video depicting an inauguration in which an actor who looked a lot like John Roberts swore in a woman with short blond hair.

According to one attendee of the luncheon, Emily List's president, Ellen Malcolm presented the video to Mrs. Clinton "as a gift."

(Emily's List said it would be sending over the video in a few minutes. We'll update when it arrives.)

For her part, Mrs. Clinton reprised an old anecdote about her original decision to run for Senate in which a high school girls basketball captain urged her to "dare to compete."

Which she seems to have taken very much to heart.

draft-Hillary's Announcement Video-draft

Here is Hillary Clinton's announcement video. Emily's List has already endorsed her for president, and Senator Chuck Schumer, through a spokesperson, emailed over his kind words for her.

"Hillary has done a superb job both campaigning and governing in New York, and she'll do an even better job as President."

When asked, a spokesman for Mike Bloomberg said the mayor had no comment.

Clarke's Gender Campaign Rolls On

More post-racial politics in the 11th Congressional race...

After receiving an invitation to join Yvette Clarke on the steps of City Hall next Tuesday (pdf) for a women-centric promotion that we couldn't pass up posting ("A women's place is in the House...The House of Representatives!"), we decided to talk to Clarke PR rep Juda Engelmayer about the abrupt change in strategy that coincided so neatly with his arrival to the campaign.

Here's what he said:

"Basically the focus has been on race -- the focus hasn't been on issues and it's hard to get the focus back on issues when what's exciting to the media are polarizing issues and we're trying to do that."

"Emily's List and Future PAC just endorsed her. These are women's groups who believe she's good on women's issues. Because of that, we decided we're going to start going with that. She is the only woman in the race so we believe it has a certain appeal and attraction level. But there are women's issues out there that are important and two PACs believe she is the candidate of choice for these reasons."

"People can argue that bringing up the women's issue is just as polarizing in a sense as the race issue, nobody can change their color, and nobody can change their gender -- well let's not go there. We're harping on a kind of non-issue: 'Vote for me because I am of a certain class or gender,' so its kind of feeding into the same race issue. But on the other hand, these two PACs give us the clout of having issues behind us as well."

Got that?
