Hamptons Real-Estate Ad War Spreading?

Weak in the knees over the competition for lucrative Hamptons real-estate ads?

Here, at the corner of 54th Street and Lexington, is a fallen soldier: a box for Dan's Papers, the beloved and batty Hamptons weekly. Although it's not exactly involved in the drama between The East Hampton Star and the budding East Hampton Press, maybe Dan's is feeling the pressure?

The Afternoon Wrap: Thursday

Ann Coulter doesn't like inconsiderate liberals in East Hampton: "It does not occur to them that someone has to manufacture the tiles and steel and glass and solar panels that go into those 'eco-friendly' mansions... Liberals are already comfortably ensconced in their beachfront estates." But who else is ensconced? Ms. Coulter has a $1.7 million waterfront estate in Palm Beach. [The Atlantic/Andrew Sullivan]

First came Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard. Now Park Slope's ongoing quest for namebrand hipster coolness scores another victory: Ryan Schreiber, the godly editor of uber-music Web site Pitchfork Media, is moving in. [New York D.I.]

Not only is green home-construction hip--and a primo way of making sure the world doesn't prematurely end in a fiery inferno and whatnot--but it's a good move for folks who like tax breaks. [Forbes]

This is a sad day for New Yorkers who were hoping to further fuel their firey Internet real-estate addiction. [Real Deal]

Marriage Is the Dark Horse Alternative

TEDDY: I woke up last Sunday in a dorm room in Harvard's Dunster House, logged into facebook.com and noticed a recently published photo album entitled, "Austen and Tito's Wedding!!! Location: East Hampton." It wasn't the first album of this nature I'd encountered. I contemplated waking up my lady friend, who is Harvard class of 2008, to show her the album and quite possibly ask for her hand in marriage, but instead I sat at the foot of her bed and watched her sleep. I figured she might need to get a few core requirements out of the way before officially agreeing to tie the knot, and in our case, jump on a sheet of glass as a symbol of our place in the Jewish tradition.

I was surprised by the marriage of Austen and Tito--though I had actually read a short story written by the bride a year before confirming their love.

Perhaps because I had just spent a cramped night on an extra-long twin bed in a college dorm room, I just could not imagine myself on the altar in the Adobe Photoshop of my mind. read more »

Jon Bon Jovi, John Sabini

photo credit: Jeff Pulver, Bon Jovi fan

Here is an email I got from a talented artist-turned-political-operative:

"Hey, Azi, I nominate the following for Coolest Political Fundraiser. If not, then at least Coolest Political Fundraiser Invite."

In that spirit, check out these pictures on The Jeff Pulver blog (via JustHillary) of the exclusive Hillary Clinton's fundraising event in East Hampton this weekend. Jeff's coverage has a heavy focus on the entertainment -- Jon Bon Jovi, who performed live at the event. read more »

And in the invite category, here's an aesthetically pleasing specimen that our artist friend wanted to nominate: an event for John Sabini's re-election campaign in the 13th Senate district. After the jump.

Katie Couric Buys $6.3 M. Hamptons Home

Goodbye Matt Lauer, hello Hamptons!
After a tear-jerking send-off on Wednesday, Katie Couric is ready to move on: to the Hamptons!

The future CBS News anchor just bought a $6.3 million home in East Hampton, according to the Wall Street Journal.

It seems like a nice way to spend the summer, before getting back behind the anchor desk. Measuring over 7,000 square feet, the two-story home includes seven bedrooms, six bathrooms, and a pool.

One of her new neighbors is beleaguered Knicks coach Larry Brown. read more »

UPDATE:We now have a photo after the jump!
