Alexandra Richards Digs the Klaxons

Alexandra Richards, daughter of Rolling Stones legend Keith Richards and onetime Calvin Klein model Patti Hansen, was DJing last night in front of fewer than 10 people at Bella’s, where we last ran into her on Halloween.

It may come as little surprise that Ms. Richards, 21, credits her euphonious childhood home with her ability to feel out the mood of a crowd, spinning in a way that both responds to and enlivens the mood. “I get most of the music from my dad. I grew up around it, so I love playing it,” she said, nodding and smiling.

Last night, after starting out with some welcoming reggae, she moved into an oldies set that, in its arrangement, felt surprisingly newfangled. Ms. Richards then finished up with a chain of cool-and-catchy indie tunes, which comprised a hefty sampling from her favorite bands du jour—“I’m obsessed with Arcade Fire, the Klaxons, LCD Soundsystem,” she said. “I think there are a lot of great bands coming out, and I totally support all of them.” She added that she has most recently fallen for a band out of Denton, Tex., called Midlake, whose song Young Bride she particularly loves. read more »

Halloween Hangover: Alexandra Richards' Metal Moment; Roberto Cavalli's Feathered Friend

Halloween comes but once a year, and it can seem like you're writing about it for weeks afterward. With that in mind we burp up the following remainders from our All Hallow's Eve treatbag. Don't spoil your supper.

First up, we negledted to mention Alexandra Richards, daughter of Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards and boyfriend of D.J. and Sneaker-preneur Nick Cohen, who spent the evening rocking out at Bella’s, the clubby lounge beneath Bar Martignetti dressed in a thong bodysuit over leopard-print tights and a black patent-leather belt

“The highlight of my evening, tonight, was being with my girlfriend," she told us. "We got a little wasted in my bedroom and dressed up in a bunch of outfits and decided to come out as 80's metalists, rockers, groupies!” read more »

The Morning Read: Wednesday, April 4, 2007

Rudy Giuliani said it's "fundamentally irresponsible" to set a date-specific timeline to withdraw troops from Iraq.

Eliot Spitzer wanted to borrow millions of dollars and spend it on pet projects for legislators.

Bill Thompson said some landlords got tax breaks from the city they didn't deserve.

The city may open a jail in Brooklyn and double its population within five years.

Andrew Cuomo issued a legal order requiring medical labs to get written consent before performing certain genetic testing.

Eliot Spitzer's budget director, Paul Francis and Assemblyman Richard Brodsky of Westchester had a lively exchange about school funding.

State lawmakers delayed releasing a list of member items.

The Daily News combed through the state budget and found some pork.

Instead of $7,000, Con Ed is now offering $9,000 to businesses affected by the blackout.

Newsday's editorial board supports the proposed $2 tax on cigarettes in Nassau, Suffolk and six other counties.

New Paltz Mayor Jason West's runningmate is out of the race. [corrected]

New Jersey's pension fund for teachers has some accounting issues.

John Edwards is gaining on Hillary Clinton in New Hampshire.

"The same hardheadedness he displayed at Harvard permeates his prescriptions, which tilt away from the pie-in-the-sky toward the modest and achievable," writes TNR's Martin Peretz of the book written by his one-time Harvard student, Chuck Schumer [subscription].

And Keith Richards says he snorted his father's ashes. UPDATE: Richards said he was joking.

Britney Sells at the Silk for $4 M.

After two years on the market, our long Noho nightmare is over. Britney Spears has finally unloaded her condo in the Silk Building for $4 million, according to the New York Post.

When The Observer last checked in on Britney's real estate woes, the pop princess had just slashed another $400,000 of the asking price. Originally priced at $6 million in July 2004, the subsequent price drops finally brought in the out of town buyers.

Unfortunately, the identity of the new buyers remains a mystery. But they certainly have some big shoes to fill. Besides for Britney and K-Fed, the penthouse has also been home to Keith Richards and Russell Simmons--at different times, of course.
