David Paterson's Affair Carefully Remembered, Oddly Reported

What tactics might new governor David Paterson take in dealing with the media when they ask questions about his personal life, I asked Ken Sunshine, the public relations man who is friendly with both Paterson and former governor Eliot Spitzer, late last week.

"I think he should tell the press to go fuck themselves when they ask things that are inappropriate," he said. "Of course, I don't think he should follow that advice. You should delve into the lives of politicians at the same level you delve into the lives of press people."

But already, resulting in what was either a full disclosure or a limited hangout or a modified limited hangout, Paterson and his wife were conducting interviews with Juan Gonzalez of the New York Daily News. Meeting since Saturday, the couple carefully disclosed news of years-old mutual extramarital affairs. read more »

The Daily News ... 100 Percent In Color!

The Daily News announced this afternoon that its entire newspaper is going to be in color. You'll have to wait until the end of 2009 for this to happen, but when it does, it will be the "first major market daily newspaper in the U.S." that will be fully in color, touts the press release (which sadly is only in black and white). The News purchased new press equipment ("a multimillion investment") that will allow any image of any size to go in color, and they'll do just that starting next year. read more »

Daily News: 'No Plans' for Paid Web Site

Daily News gossip guy George Rush suggested in an interview with Judy Regan on satellite radio that the newspaper would start charging for some of its online content. Jeff Bercovici noted:

Regan was grilling Rush about how the News makes money from its online audience when Rush hinted the paper might adopt a model akin to TimesSelect, the premium-content service the Times used to monetize its opinion columns and other offerings. read more »

Reaction to Kelly for Mayor

Here's Republican strategist Bill O'Reilly's take on the Kelly for Mayor mayor boomlet that found expression in the Times and on the opinion page of the Daily News over the weekend:

“All the buzz about Ray Kelly shows how eager New Yorkers are to keep the city moving in the same direction. There is definite fear out there about handing the keys to City Hall back to a career politician. The past 16 years have been a wildly successful experiment for New Yorkers; they have shown that extraordinary individuals from outside the normal political process can do the job better."

Which I imagine is also a neat preview of the argument John Catsimatidis or whoever the main non-Democrat is going to be if Kelly doesn't run. read more »

Broadway Partners now officially owns the New York Daily News building.

The increasingly active landlord closed on the 14-story building located at 450 West 33rd Street today, according to a press release. The Observer reported back in February that the building went to contract. The sale price was $664 million.

The home of the Daily News has approximately 1.6 million square feet of office space.
