At Rebecca Taylor Show, Herd Ignored and Byrd Adored

Today’s—air quotes—1 p.m. Rebecca Taylor show in the Salon at Bryant Park had three distinct, carefully orchestrated parts. One involved folks sitting in chairs and watching Ms. Taylor’s clothes go back and forth. Another section was comprised of models wearing the clothes and stomping on a gold-sequin runway. And the third component, of which we were an integral part, included some 50 people holding meaningless purple flashcards for 45 minutes in a fountainside corral. read more »

What's This? A Waist! Rebecca Taylor Returns To Tailoring

“We’ve all been living in these smocks and these big blobby things, and I just wanted to show off the waist, the shoulder, and to celebrate women’s bodies,” said designer Rebecca Taylor in a charming New Zealand accent, backstage after her show on Saturday at the tents. It had featured lovely, red-lipsticked models in demure, fitted pencil skirts and was attended by actresses Mena Suvari (with head near-shorn, but somehow it worked) and Emmy Rossum, as well as socialite Olivia Palermo.

Ms. Taylor then shared her secret for preparing a spring collection while mothering seven-month-old twin daughters: “I’ve got a lovely husband!” Ah, of course she does.
