Rupert Murdoch on 'Extremists': It's What They Call Themselves

This morning, News Corp. chief Rupert Murdoch sat on a very distinguished panel at the third day of the Clinton Global Initiative: it included Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Prime Minister of Turkey; Jose Ramos Horta, President of Timor-Lest; Stepan Mesic, President of Croatia.

It was a very civil discussion, titled "Building a Global Multi-Ethnic Community." But Mr. Murdoch did face some tough questions from the moderator, former President of Ireland Mary Robinson. read more »

Today in Bill Clinton's Celebrity Goodness Initiative: Rupert Murdoch!

We've long been fascinated by the relationship between presumptively right-wing media mogul Rupert Murdoch and the Clintons. Today, a little bit more of the love between the two camps may emerge when Mr. Murdoch takes the stage at 9:30 a.m. at the Clintong Global Initiative's annual meeting here in New York, to participate in a plenary-session panel discussion entitled, "Building a Global Multi-Ethnic Community," which is arguably what Mr. Murdoch is doing in the media universe. We've got reporters there and will get back to you on what he has to say. read more »

Podesta Says It's Too Late For Gore, Getting Late for Obama

Is it too late for Al Gore to get in the race?

John Podesta thinks so.

"Yeah," said Podesta, when I caught up with him yesterday at the Clinton Global Initiative conference in midtown. "I don't think he wants to."

At last year's conference, the speculation surrounding Gore's potential bid was very much a running theme.

Podesta, president of the Center for American Progress, former Clinton chief of staff and current Hillary Clinton supporter, said that the enthusiasm for a Gore candidacy had diminished compared to last year, but he also figured that was probably something Gore wanted.

"I think it's changed, but I think he wanted it to change," said Podesta. "He is just going way deep on this one issue. And I think that's what he wanted to do."

More after the jump. read more »

Bill Defends Hillary (and Himself) on Health Care, Library Contributions

At a press conference this morning at his Clinton Global Initiative conference, Bill Clinton said that he and Hillary Clinton's inability to pass health care reform was not a total failure.

He also said that he would disclose any new contributions to his library if Hillary was elected president. read more »
