Soros Money Flows to New York Senate Democrats

Liberal billionaire George Soros and members of his family have contributed a little more than $1 million into state campaign coffers since 2000, with nearly all of it going to help Democrats in the State Senate.

Already this year, George, his son Robert, Robert’s wife, Melissa, and another son, Jonathan, contributed $199,500. George, Robert and Melissa each gave $25,000 to the New York State Democratic Party and gave the maximum allowable personal contributions - $9,500 - to Eric Schneiderman, David Valesky, Craig Johnson and Joe Addabbo.

(Two other members of the Soros family also contributed this year. Son Jonathan gave $9,500 to Democratic State Senate candidate Rick Dollinger and his wife, Jennifer, gave $1,000 to a pro-abortion rights lobbying PAC that donated to Johnson and Dollinger. read more »

Congestion Pricing Passes Committee

Congestion pricing just passed the City Council Committee on State and Federal Legislation, 6-4. Members who voted in favor included Maria Baez, Melissa Viverito, Larry Seabrook, Joel Rivera, Mike McMahon and Hiram Monserrate. Those opposed included Lew Fidler, Joe Addabbo and Erik Dilan.

It goes to the full council tonight.

Clinton Supporter Addabbo Has Nothing Bad to Say About Bloomberg '08

Before news broke of Michael Bloomberg's Oklahoma meeting, City Councilman Joe Addabbo told me, "I'm supporting Hillary. But I wouldn't badmouth Bloomberg if he ran against my candidate."

He added, "If it was someone else, I might say 'I'm concerned about this or that.' But I would never say that of Bloomberg."

Addabbo, a Democrat, represents the conservative neighborhoods of Howard Beach and Rockaway Beach in Queens.

Addabbo Doesn't Like Spitzer's Driver's License Plan

Add City Councilman Joe Addabbo, who is looking become a state Senator by unseating Serph Maltese of Queens, to the list of Democrats who oppose Eliot Spitzer’s driver’s license plan for illegal immigrants.

“I’m against it," he said. "I understand the merits of trying to document certain people,” but it “waters down the validity of my license. It also takes away the incentive to become a citizen.”
