Grey's Anatomy Writers Avenge Katherine Heigl's Comments With a Brain Tumor

Remember when Katherine Heigl withdrew herself from the Emmy consideration last month because she felt she was not given awards-worthy material by the show's writers?

Well, according to Us Weekly, the writers decided to give her a chance at an Emmy by writing in a very dramatic brain tumor for the outspoken young actress' character, Izzie Stevens, that may eventually cause her to be killed off the show.

An unnamed source tells the tabloid, "[Producer Shonda Rhimes] and the writers are pissed at her. It's their way of screwing with her. She won't know whether she's going to live or die."

A rep for ABC would not confirm the plot twist, but said that Jeffery Dean Morgan—whom Ms. Heigl's Izzie Stevens reportedly has visions of due to her tumor—is returning to the show.

A Look Back: Miley Cyrus Joins Lohan, Hilton, Wolfowitz in Denouncing Mean Magazine

As you may have already read, Miley Cyrus is totally embarrassed by the semi-topless (back view) photos printed of her in this month's Vanity Fair. In a statement put out by her publicist, Ms. Cyrus, age 15, said, "I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be 'artistic' and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed... I never intended for any of this to happen and I apologize to my fans who I care so deeply about."

Representatives of the magazine responded that during Annie Liebovitz's shoot, "Miley's parents and/or minders were on the set all day... Since the photo was taken digitally, they saw it on the shoot and everyone thought it was a beautiful and natural portrait of Miley."

This isn't the first time a star has felt stung by VF. Dewey ingenues like Lindsay Lohan and Paul Wolfowitz have complained of being misquoted and beloved icons like Courtney Love and Paris Hilton blame the magazine for their subsequent vilification. Here, a look back in anger, denial, and occasional admission. read more »

Sara Vilkomerson’s Guide To This Week’s Movies: Who Are You, Tracy Morgan?

Going to the movies in January means suffering through an annual Hollywood holiday hangover; all the good stuff—the Daniel Day-Lewis performances, the sweeping period love stories, the Coen brothers—gets shoved to the side for flicks like National Treasure 2, and Alvin and the Chipmunks (both in the top five this past weekend). It’s grim out there (for example, while sitting through a packed AVPR: Aliens vs. read more »

Perhaps Barbara Walters Simply Dislikes the Word 'Tabloid'

Last night, Barbara Walters’ much anticipated The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2007 aired on ABC. Before viewers got a chance to assess the lineup, Ms. Walters said that she was going to avoid any “tabloid stuff.” And she did…sort of. As promised, Bill Clinton, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and Don Imus were all in fact honored. But so, too, were Victoria and David Beckham, who were asked to dish on their much-publicized friendship with Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. (Even Bill O’Reilly asked Ms. Walters “Why? Why? Why?” after learning that Posh ‘n’ Becks would be featured on her program.) Then came Justin Timberlake. The former ‘N Sync pop singer told the television journalist, among other things, about his romance with Hollywood starlet Jessica Biel—also a topic touched upon a time or two in, well, the tabloids. Katherine Heigl, who called her recent hit film, Knocked Up, “sexist,” was also on Ms. Walters’ short list. From Heigl, the former 20/20 anchor learned that the actress is not happy that her Grey’s Anatomy co-star was fired after he slung homophobic slurs at T.R. Knight.
