All week we've been wondering just where and how the city's influentials will be watching the election on Tuesday, Nov. 4.

At the Avon Foundation gala on Tuesday, Oct. 28, Grey's Anatomy's Patrick Dempsey told us that he will probably be shooting on Tuesday, but will take a break to vote. And at the FIAF Trophee des Arts Gala on Wednesday, Oct. 29, former Metropolitan Museum of Art director, Philippe de Montebello said that there was, frankly, no point in watching. 

"These days it's pointless to watch the election. Results are given one minute after the polls!" he said. "The drama of the all night stuff would be most unusual and rare now, wouldn't it?"  read more »

At the Whitney Museum Gala on Monday, Oct. 20, gallerist Mary Boone told the Transom she has been through three economic downturns: the first when she opened her gallery in 1977; another in the late ’80s; and finally a third directly following 9/11. And so the petite Ms. Boone, whose 5-foot-1-inch frame and tame, pitch-black hair make her seem deceptively mousy, is not particularly concerned this time around.

“In November of ’89, only 20 percent of works were selling at auctions,” Ms. Boone said. “But the works then went on the market at the right prices. So it’s all a correction.  read more »

The lady we are forever indebted to for making smarts, sass and eyeglasses sexy propelled Baby Mama to the No. 1 spot last weekend with over 18 million smackeroos, beating the stoner set who chose Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay. What does this mean for you? That between this and last year’s Knocked Up and Juno, expect Hollywood to start spawning (hee!) tons of pregnant-y flicks, which will get less funny with each trimester.
