Luther Smith

It looks like Bill Lynch’s associate, Luther Smith, will not be joining David Paterson’s administration after all.

Smith is a longtime consultant in Lynch’s firm who also worked for Paterson’s 2006 lieutenant governor campaign. So, when Paterson became governor earlier this month, Smith was a logical guy to reach out to.

Here’s a copy of an invitation to an April 2 fund-raiser geared towards young professionals for likely 2009 mayoral candidate Bill Thompson. The invite was sent to me by a reader, but it's also available on Thompson's campaign website.

Among the event organizers are Luther Smith, the Democratic consultant recently hired by Governor Paterson; Kevin Wardally, who worked with Luther Smith at Bill Lynch Associates, and Matthew Silverstein, a candidate for president of the N.Y.S. Young Democrats.

The Spitzer campaign has brought Luther Smith, a former top aide to Virginia Fields, abord to manage David Paterson's separate-but-not-really campaign, a friendly Rock Hackshaw reports.

OK, if former Miller aide Steve Sigmund's arrival on his white horse at Ferrer campaign headquarters is news, then so is this: Virginia's top political aide, Luther Smith, has also made his way to Freddy's camp, where he's on staff with a behind-the-scenes job rallying political support and trying to help turn back Mike's inroads into the African-American community. Smith, along with having a melifluous surname, appears to be among the handful of Democratic staffers to have resisted the, er, inducements of the Bloomberg campaign, not an easy thing to do.  read more »
