Southampton, Getting Fairly Popular

To bravely counter the new Corcoran/ NRT/ Allan M. Schnieder monster, Michael Daly and his wife Barbara are opening a RE/MAX Beach Properties on Southampton's Country Road. Update: We wrote that Mr. Daly sells $1.2 million a year in the Hamptons. Instead, that number refers to the region's average sales price. Pardon us.

6 More Weeks for Wilson Eyre's $12.5m Meadowcroft Estate

meadowcroft2_1.jpg
A very large abode (Amiaga)

What does the Meadowcraft Estate have going for it? It was designed by Wilson Eyre in 1904, for starters; it stretches over seven Southampton acres; it's on Quantuck Bay ("in the legendary yachting community of Quiogue"); its lighting was designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany; and its architecture typifies the turn-of-the-century Arts and Crafts Movement.

And there's more: due to a mysterious "confusion in the market as to the seller's expectations"--according to auctioneer Sheldon Good--the sealed bid deadline for the estate has been pushed back to September 14, 2006.

If you happen to be a multimillionaire with money to spend on 1904 waterfront Hamptons estates, there's even more good news: the reserve price has been made public--and it's a mere $12.5 million.  read more »

"Old Trees" Still Costs $48 M.

Today, the New York Post follows up on the story of a $48 million Southampton mansion, that broke yesterday on The Real Estate. The 10.5 acre property--known as "Old Trees"--may not have had open houses already, but plenty of celebrities recently passed through.
Last weekend at "Old Trees," [Owner Donald] Burns hosted an event to benefit the "God's Love We Deliver" charity. Guests included neighbor Chuck Scarborough, Isaac Mizrahi and Kyle MacLachlan.

Southampton Mansion Asking $48 Million

Out on the East End, where many New Yorkers dream of being right about now, there is a high-priced mansion soon hitting the luxury market.

In Southampton, telecommunications mogul Donald Burns is preparing to list his massive house on Lake Agawam for $48 million, according to a source with knowledge of the listing.

Located on 10.5 acres, the grand home has a distinguished legacy since it was built in 1911. Architect Goodhue Livingston, of the renowned firm Trowbridge & Livingston, both owned and designed the home-which measures over 20,000 square feet. Mr. Livingston's firm also designed such notable buildings as the St. Regis Hotel, the J.P. Morgan headquarters on Wall Street, and the Hayden Planetarium.

Decades later, the family of Hamptons real-estate broker Michael Shaheen owned the palatial house, before selling it to Mr. Burns for around $20 million in 1999.

The sprawling property is comprised of three parcels: in addition to the main house, there is a 19th century barn and a seperate guest cottage. Also, there are two pools (one for the guest house, of course), a spa, and tennis courts.

Brokers Jay Flagg and Raymond Smith, of Prudential Douglas Elliman, will be listing the property, according a source. Mr. Flagg declined to comment.

Maggie and Peter in Tribeca?

imageNYET14004111939.jpg
The New York Post reports today that Maggie Gyllenhaal, and her fiancee Peter Sarsgaard have been checking out a $2.7 million Tribeca condo. At this time, the contract has not been signed. But considering that the attractive couple just announced they were getting married earlier this month, and that Ms. Gyllenhaal is pregant, they could be ready to settle down in a sleek, 2,300-square-foot apartment.

Also in The Post: Katie Couric is reportedly buying an $8 million Southampton home, and there's a price on those units that Harry Macklowe is purchasing at The Plaza.  read more »

The Morning Read: March 15, 2006

Fred Dicker reports over at the Post that a GOP endorsement for John Spencer is imminent, and KT McFarland has found herself at odds with state evangelical leaders.

The Post also reports that KT has skipped voting in 14 elections six out of the last 14 elections since she registered as a republican in 1991, and alternated registered addresses between her Park Avenue and Southampton homes.

The Times has a scorecard on Tom Suozzi's new campaign ad, and writes that Christine Quinn will not march is still having discussions with Irish and LGBT leaders, and is hopeful she will be able to march together with the LGBT community in the St. Patrick's Day parade.

And finally, the Albany Times Union reports that Congressman Sherwood Boehlert discussed his future with President Bush aboard Airforce One yesterday.
