Mayor Bloomberg is escaping the New York heat today and tomorrow to say hello to some old friends (most with yachts) as he attends Herbert Allen's annual retreat for media moguls and tycoons in Sun Valley, Idaho.

Still no word what they'll be talking about at this year's summer camp for really, really wealthy people.

But Bloomberg's been to this event before. Here, from an old interview, is what Allen told the Observer about the reaction to a little speech the mayor gave to the assembled executives back in 2003:

"Afterward, some people came up to him and said he would make a great President. I hope he stays in public life. I think he is the best Mayor of my lifetime. He's not dependent. He's not an ideologue."
