That’s the subject line of an email invitation to a fund-raiser for Melinda Katz’s city comptroller campaign, which a reader forwarded to me. It’s taking place on January 10 at the Manhattan office of Howard Milstein, a major real estate developer.

At 9:30, Mike Bloomberg joins others to testify before the Senate Committee on Homeland Security .

At 11 a.m., the City Council's Land Use Committee will vote on whether to build a school on a contaminated site in the Bronx. If approved, it could go to the full council for a vote by 2 p.m.

Also at 11 a.m., the state Senate goes into session.

At 12:30 p.m., Senator Ted Kennedy will speak to the National Press Club in D.C.

And at 2 p.m., the Senate Foreign Relations Committee will hold a hearing on Iraq.

BJ's on a Budget

City Councilors are moving towards an agreement with The Related Companies that would force stores in the proposed Bronx Gateway Mall—namely BJ’s—to accept food stamps and W.I.C., and to offer 1,000 free memberships to low-income families, according to a source. But if negotiations are successful, the councilors are unlikely to block the proposal, which the Land Use Committee will vote on Wednesday morning. - Matthew Schuerman
