Tucker Carlson is out. David Gregory is in.

Today, MSNBC officials announced sweeping changes to their primetime lineup.

Most notably: starting Monday, March 17, NBC White House Correspondent (and robo newsman) David Gregory will be anchoring a new show, Race for the White House weekdays at 6 P.M.

The new show, billed as a "a fast-paced daily look at the latest election news" will replace the long struggling Tucker.  read more »

David Gregory, Pls Come Forward in Libby Case

Last night, NBC Nightly News reported Ari Fleischer's testimony from the Scooter Libby trial, in which the former press guy said he had sought immunity from prosecution because he had done the very thing that Libby is accused of doing: disclosed the fact that Bush enemy Joe Wilson's wife worked for the CIA—Fleischer said, to two reporters, including David Gregory of NBC. Fleischer's testimony hurts Libby because he said that he had learned as much from Libby himself some time before.

NBC should have reported whether its employee, Gregory, agrees with Fleischer's account (According to Fox News, the other reporter, John Dickerson of Time, disputes it).

Shooting, With Silencer

This morning's White House press gaggle was filled with scuffling between press secretary Scott McClellan and reporters about the official delays in disclosing Vice President Dick Cheney's shooting of a fellow hunter this weekend. The rancor reportedly peaked with a flare-up between McClellan and NBC's David Gregory, with McClellan telling Gregory to hush because "the cameras aren't on right now." Gregory replied that McClellan was being a "jerk" and that he resented the press secretary "tak[ing] shots at me personally" from the podium.

"I'll calm down when I feel like calming down," Gregory said.

The press office seems to still be trying to quash Gregory after the fact: The entire exchange, though widely reported, is missing from the official transcript.

*CLARIFICATION: Romenesko notes that the transcript is from the still-contentious press conference, later in the day. The morning gaggle has still not been posted on the White House site.
