LeBron James Closes Out Fashion Week at Ralph Lauren

Guests at the Ralph Lauren show Friday morning on Hudson Street may have felt like they were in the steamroom of a very expensive Uptown spa: Soothing World music, the stacked intimacy of just a few rows of seating, Moroccan-looking lamp hanging from the entrance to the runway, cream-colored cushions on the benches. Or maybe it was just the heat.

LeBron James, who hosted a charity event at the Polo Mansion earlier this week, sat beside David Lauren in the front row, joined by sleek-looking girlfriend Savannah Brinson. Mr. James occasionally shared a laugh with the younger Mr. Lauren as the khaki-licious collection breezed down the runway on turbaned models. Last night at a mobbed charity event at th Polo Mansion on Madison Avenue, this year's NBA MVP runner-up, Chris Paul, wandered past the cufflink displays with his girlfriend, Jada, who was delicate-looking and wore a blue silk dress. (They've been together since his freshman year at Wake Forest.) Mr. Paul wore a suit accessorized by a black-and-white checked scarf. "My look, I think it says I'm young, and you know, fresh, I didn't put no tie on tonight," he explained. "I feel like Ralph Lauren makes all his clothes for me, because he always puts a 3 on the sleeve, and that's my basketball number."  read more »

If you believe in democracy—O.K., elitist democracy— you have to see some justice in the award. 125 sporstwriters and broadcasters gave him half again as many points as LeBron James, the runnerup, and first-place voting wasn't close; he nearly trebled Kobe Bryant. What these guys were saying is that Nash transforms a team. Just now on ESPN they said that Nash's teams have led the NBA in scoring the last five seasons. Hard to argue with that...
