A Champion of Perks
In the highly publicized fight about M.T.A. board members who receive free E-ZPasses, David Mack--a vice chairman--emerged as the leading defender of the practice. "Why should I ride and inconvenience myself when I can ride in a car?" he told reporters, before retreating from the position in the face of a backlash.
But for those familiar with Mack, his defense of plush benefits should come as no surprise. He gained some unflattering attention in 2004 for the perks he enjoyed as an honorary state trooper.
