Joy Luck Club Director to Release Princess Movie on YouTube
Filmmaker Wayne Wang (The Joy Luck Club, Maid in Manhattan) will release his new film The Princess of Nebraska on YouTube on Oct. 17, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Princess is the companion film to Mr. Wang’s A Thousand Years of Good Prayers, which will be released in theaters on Sept. 19. The decision to release Princess online was part of an overall distribution strategy developed by Magnolia Pictures, Cinetic Rights Management and YouTube. Cinetic sells and markets independent movies to digital channels.
Based on a short story by Yiyun Li, the movie follows Sasha, a young Chinese woman who interrupts her first year of college in Nebraska to travel to San Francisco and get an abortion to abort the child and confront her lover's male friend. read more »
