Socialite Slapdown: The Final Four
The Observer's version of March Madness entered a new phase at midnight last night when votes were tabulated for the Final Four face-off in our Socialite Slapdown contest.
The contest—which gained a bit of heat last week when Page Six reported on socialites' efforts to stack the votes in their favor—closes with four finalists: Publishing heiress, model and bag-designer Lydia Hearst faces off against socialite/style writer Derek Blasberg, and Lauren Davis, socialite and Vogue editor, faces off against Peter Davis, the mocialite-loving ... style writer! read more »
Snnnip! At Socialite's South American Weddingstravaganza: Mojitos, Marauding Models, Designer Wielding Scissors
“It was an experience of a lifetime. I’m never seen a more beautiful bride,” said Valentino publicist Annelise Peterson of Vogue contributing editor Lauren Davis’ Cartagena, Colombia, wedding on Tuesday, Jan. 8, to Colombian billionaire heir Andres Santo Domingo. read more »
Kelly Killoren Bensimon Adores Cars, Jack Russell Terriers, R&B
Open-access Facebook profiles are totally hot—primarily because they can be viewed without going through the whole ‘friending’ rigmarole. In fact, one needn’t even 'poke' them! And that’s sweet, because 'poking' is completely out of the question.
So we decided to celebrate those peeps with the gumption to announce their, say, religious beliefs to the whole world. And what better way to kick things off than with a profile breakdown of one of our all-time fave New York socials—Kelly Killoren Bensimon!
First, some background info: Ms. Bensimon, founding editor of Elle Accessories, became Ms. Bensimon when she married Gilles Bensimon, the celebrated fashion photographer, whose work for Elle put him at the forefront of the industry. (The 63-year-old shutterbug, also the onetime creative director of the glossy, has appeared a couple times on America’s Next Top Model.) The high-profile couple, who have two children together, split in 2006.
Now, on to the nitty-gritty…Ms. Bensimon, a Taurus who had a column in Page Six Magazine for a spit, is apparently “In a Relationship,” also billing herself as both a conservative and Catholic. Holy moley! She lists only one, rather curious activity—“riding all day long”—though her list of interests is suitably varied: “my kidlets / my horse / cars / watersking / jack russells / whatever peeks my interest.” [Oh, and ‘sic’ on all accounts here.] read more »
Editor Lauren Davis to Marry Andrés Santo Domingo in Fantasy Wedding

Throwing a blowout, V.I.P.-laden wedding less than a month after Harvey Weinstein’s outrageous nuptials is a gutsy feat. For Vogue editor Lauren Davis, though, it’s as easy as one, two, three…million dollars. Her January 8 ceremony is going to be held in Cartagena, Colombia, the home country of her fiancé, Andrés Santo Domingo, an heir and music industrialist.
Ms. Davis’ nine bridesmaids will each be dressed by a different designer, Fashion Week Daily reports. Venezuelan-born New York socialite Fabiola Beracasa, for one, will be clad in a Vera Wang number. Tinsley Mortimer? Giambattista Valli, but of course. Coco Brandolini will wear Alberta Ferretti; Tatiana Santo can look forward to donning Derek Lam; and Amy Greenspon is to sport Proenza Schouler.
All the bridesmaids know what they’re wearing, but the design of the bride-to-be’s dress is totes hush-hush. Like the climax in some straight-to-DVD princess movie, Ms. Davis’ “dream fantasy” Nina Ricci gown, designed by Olivier Theyskens, is to remain hidden until its unveiling before the couple’s 400 guests at an evening ceremony.
Flower arrangements are being handled by Raul Avila, who oversees the Costume Institute gala at the Met. Instead of having the food flown in from Per Se or Cipriani, Ms. Davis and Mr. Santo Domingo have decided to go native with the comestibles. After the affair comes to a close, the couple will reportedly kick off their Far East-themed honeymoon in the Philippines. Fireworks and veal in Westport is très passé!
Paul Johnson-Calderon No Longer Kristian Laliberte's Frenemy
Paul Johnson-Calderon, the social butterfly and assistant to Vogue contributing editor Lauren Davis, wants to set the record straight about his failed attempt to star in a reality TV show with publicist party-boy Kristian Laliberte. (“It’s going to be The Simple Life meets The Hills,” Mr. Laliberte reportedly said.)
“There’s no more show. It’s no longer happening; Vogue won’t let me do it,” Mr. Johnson-Calderon, 24, told the Daily Transom last night at John Allan's Habitat for Humanity benefit in Stone Rose, a jazz bar on the fourth floor of the Time-Warner Center. read more »
Vogue Masthead Turns Out In Full Force For Erin Fetherston's Furbelows
Erin Fetherston, statuesque designer of feminine frocks (and the next high-end designer to hit a Target near you), attracted a sizeable portion of the Vogue masthead to her show at Bryant Park on Wednesday Senior market editor Meredith Melling Burke teetered precariously on the highest sparkling gold platform stripper-shoes we have ever seen, but still managed to look like a sweet little school girl, hawking T-shirts for a good cause—we’re not quite sure which—to the crowd in the front row. Also spotted were socialite Lauren Davis; actresses Brittany Snow and Zooey Deschanel,;and “It” models Agyness Deyn (resplendent in hot pink), and Irina Lazareanu, who wore what looked to be snow boots. (Since when do models not walking in a show qualify as front-row celebrities?)
The lights went down. Anna Wintour donned her sunglasses. Ms. Fetherston’s soft-colored suits and shirts channeled Working Girl, but were paired with Arden-Wohl-like white headbands that progressed into turban territory and beyond. One poor girl lost a massive white chunk heel halfway down the runway. She walked on her toe the rest of the way.
Backstage, Lyndell Mansfeld, a stylist at Bumble & Bumble, was overseeing the mannequins’ hair. “[Erin’s] girls are always kind of beautiful, princessy, fairy, mermaidy, ethereal… they look like good girls, but really they’re quite cheeky,” said Ms. Mansfeld, also known as “Pinky” because of her dyed pink ‘do. “We’ve had a lot of cloneys going on,” she continued. “You know, everyone was getting a fierce bob cut, and everyone was getting bangs cut, and it was like, ‘Ok, cut your hair off!’ So this season we’re going to go back to having our individual freedom.” Phew!
