Web Redesign! New York Sun Edition


The New York Sun has redesigned its Web site. That glob of red that used to border their home page is long gone. It's actually really quite user-friendly now. There's a nice slider for photos up top, prominent placement for their columnists; headlines denote stories and teasers are gone, but that's fine! It's an upgrade all around.

Rupert Murdoch also talked about where he'd search for journalistic talent. When Mr. Cavuto asked him if he'd look for future Journal reporters at The Times, he responded:

There are some very fine journalists there we would be happy to have, but, I mean, equally there are in other newspapers. I don`t want to be too specific. I mean, they have been trying to steal, without telling us, some journalists from The New York Post. And The New York Sun is a very obvious place where are there some very fine journalists. It`s a small paper and a new one -- but all over the country.

New York Sun Gets a New Books Editor

New York Sun books editor Thomas Meaney is leaving the paper to pursue a phD in European history at Columbia. "I officially turn in my wings on Tuesday," he said in an interview. His replacement is 25-year-old David Wallace-Wells.
According to Mr. Meaney, Mr. Wallace-Wells graduated from Brown in 2004 and has since worked at Slate.com and the publisher Henry Holt.
Mr. Wallace-Wells was not available for comment.

N.Y. Sun Raises Cover Price to $1



Earlier this month, both the New York Times and Wall Street Journal raised their cover prices up from a buck—to $1.25 and $1.50, respectively. Now, The New York Sun is getting in on the action. On Aug. 6—the same day the Times gets 1.5 inches narrower—the Sun will double their newsstand price to $1 an issue, according to an internal memo.
