New York's city council announced that "Live Theatre Week," in which Off Broadway shows will offer a buy-one-get-one-ticket-for-free deal, will be held Jan. 21-27. In a statement, League of Off-Broadway Theatres and Producers president George Forbes said, "We are honored that the City Council is recognizing the importance of Live Theatre in New York City, and we are pleased to be able to give back to our audiences, in the form of this special promotion. We hope New Yorkers and tourists will take advantage of this offer which enables them to purchase half-price tickets in advance."

Get out your anti-war paint. The Godlight Theatre Company is bringing the staged adaptation of Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse-Five or: The Children's Crusade is coming to Off-Broadway. Previews will start on Jan. 11 at 59E59 Theaters and run until Feb. 17.

Speaking of Ethan Coen, the world premiere of his three short plays, Almost an Evening, will open on Jan. 22 at The Atlantic Theater Company's Stage 2. Previews will being Jan. 9, according to the Associated Press.

The cast will include F. Murray Abraham (who won an Oscar for his role as the envious Antonio Salieri in Amadeus), Jonathan Cake (who starred in the short-lived TV show Six Degrees), J.R. Horne, Jordan Lage, Mark Linn-Baker, Elizabeth Marvel, Mary McCann, Del Pentecost and Joey Slotnick.

Roundabout Underground's critically acclaimed musical Speech & Debate has been extended from Dec. 16 to Dec. 30, according to Variety. We interviewed star Jason Fuchs this week for the Culture Czar.

You won't be seeing Ethan Hawke onstage for a while, but that's not because he's burned out on theater after those nine-hour marathon perfs of "The Coast of Utopia." Opening Off Broadway Nov. 7, the ever-expanding multihyphenate's next stage project will be the New Group's upcoming "Things We Want," with Hawke onboard as director.
