Joe Biden

Putting the Obama Speech Story in a Biden Context

Understandably, Joe Biden's campaign-ending bout with plagiarism two decades ago has been getting its share of attention over the past 24 hours, with the Clinton campaign drawing a parallel with Barack Obama's lift of Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick's words.

Certainly, Obama's delivery of the passage in question was pretty much identical, as the video evidence now available on YouTube clearly shows. So why isn't it being treated with the same gravity?  read more »

The VP Stakes: If It's Obama Vs. McCain, Who Runs With Them?

Though the Democratic nomination has yet to be decided, Barack Obama and John McCain have begun acting very much as if the general election has already started, exchanging direct criticisms and sizing each other up. And, while neither has talked publicly about it at this early stage, both men are doubtless pondering the running-mate question.

In a matchup with Obama, McCain would face two potentially conflicting imperatives with his choice of a vice presidential candidate.  read more »

Hillary Bullies the Boys

LAS VEGAS—Tonight, Hillary Clinton hit back.

And they started right away.  read more »

Biden, Again, on Why Pakistan is the Real 'Crisis Waiting to Happen'

Joe Biden delivered a policy speech today about Pakistan, perhaps the most overlooked issue by either party in the 2008 presidential race.

For months, he's been the presidential candidate most vocal about the national security threat posed by Pakistan. During the Democratic debate in Philadelphia, he suggested that instead of saber-rattling over Iran's pursuit of nuclear weapons, the Bush administration should be more concerned about Pakistan's already established nuclear capabilities.  Since then, Pervez Musharraf has declared emergency rule, suspended constitutional government and clamped down on his political opponents.

Speaking at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at Saint Anselm's College in Manchester, Biden offered a plan to help stabilize Pakistan, empower its Muslim moderates and keep its nuclear weapons out of the hands of ideological extremists.

In his speech, Biden reveals that he personally spoke to Musharraf and the main opposition leader Benazir Bhutto about the current crisis.  read more »

When asked about his personal feelings about Hillary Clinton, Giuliani said he knew her well. In fact, he said, “I got to know her actually, probably the best, during September 11.”

Somewhere, Joe Biden was smiling.
